Happy Ntshingila – Chairman
Having started his career at the Unilever Group as a sales representative, Happy progressed to marketing assistant in the Rama Margarine brand office. In 1985 he became the editor of IBM SA News, later being promoted to media liaison officer where he handled media issues affecting IBM, particularly on the disinvestment front. In early 1987, Happy joined Tiger Oats as public relations manager for King Korn before joining Ogilvy & Mather as an account manager. There he worked on brands such as Joko, Royco, Mrs Ball’s Chutney, and Steers.
In 1991 Happy co-founded HerdBuoys, the first black-owned advertising agency in South Africa. Since then he has held several executive positions as Marketing Director for Vodacom, CEO for HerdBuoys McCann Erikson, CEO of Supersport and Group Chief Marketing Officer for ABSA.
In 2016 Happy was awarded the Financial Mail Lifetime Achievement award and in 2017 the Marketing Person of the Year award from the Marketing Association of South Africa. Apart from being the Chairman of CoActivate, Happy is also the Chairman of Washirika Holdings.
Thabang Magare – Non-executive Director
Thabang Magare, a VUT Alumnus and qualified chartered accountant (CA), is passionate about financial systems. He completed his National Diploma in Financial Information Systems (FIS) in 2001 at the Vaal Triangle Technikon, now VUT. He believes that the knowledge he gained from VUT has been invaluable to his career, particularly as a member of the Student Representative Council (SRC), where he honed his leadership skills and learnt some valuable life lessons especially about the consequences of choices.
Before joining forces with Happy Ntshingila, Thabang was a Partner at Deloitte Africa, leading audits in financial services where information technology was at the heart of the business. Thabang is currently the founder and CEO of MBMT Advisory Services and a Director of CoActivate.
Roger Gerrish – Head Of Strategy
Roger qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte in 1994 and has nearly 10 years’ experience in the ICT sector, six of which included working in the UK. He has considerable financial and commercial experience gleaned from working for two start-ups in the UK – First Telecom (a voice reseller) and Iaxis (a broadband wholesaler) – where he worked closely with Venture Capitalists such as Morgan Stanley, Bain and Chiltern in the role of Commercial Director for Europe.
On returning to South Africa in 2001, Roger was appointed Commercial Director for Unilever’s IT Infrastructure Division for the Africa, Middle East & Turkey Region. Following a global outsource to BT by Unilever, Roger set-up and ran the outsource contract as well as assuming other Business Development responsibilities for BT before leaving to start Velociti, a Contact Centre and business process outsourcing company. After 4 ½ years as CEO and COO of Velociti, Roger left to set up LikeMinds Holdings (Pty) Ltd in 2010. Under the umbrella of the LikeMinds group of companies, Roger co-founded several successful businesses, mainly Jabba Mobile (Pty) Ltd for which he is CEO. The LikeMinds group of companies was unbundled in 2018 and the Contact Centre business rebranded to CoActivate (Pty) Ltd in July 2018 where Roger is Director of Strategy.
Roland Mazery – Head of Innovation
Roland has 18 years of experience in the Contact Centre industry, including working as the COO of Velociti where he was responsible for over 500 staff. Having previously headed up IT at Velociti, Roland has an excellent understanding of the technical hardware and software requirements, including the ability to keep abreast with changes in technology that can materially impact Contact Centre operations.
Before joining CoActivate he was the General Manager of Operations for WNS Global Services, a global BPO business with over 36 000 employees worldwide. He setup their Durban operation, comprising of two sites and over 600 staff, specialising in inbound and outbound sales operations. In 2017 he won a global CEO Habits award for his operation’s outstanding performance.
Sharon Vernon – Head of Customer & Employee Engagement
Sharon is an MBA graduate and HR Professional with over 15 years HR, general management, and key account management experience. Before joining the business, Sharon spent 5 years as a key account manager and a further 5 years as the Regional GM for Quest Staffing Solutions, a division of AdCorp Holdings.
While at AdCorp, Sharon was integrally involved in the development and implementation of capacity management and staffing solutions for the telecommunications, financial services, and retail sectors, with specific exposure to the Contact Centre and BPO industry.
Sharon has managed the Contact Centre Operations for the past eight years and has built an excellent working relationship with Vodacom as the Director of Customer Engagement in addition to ensuring the wellness of all CoActivate staff.
